Bangkok, Thailand – December 4, 2024 – Assumption University of Thailand (AU) officially welcomed the festive season with its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremonies, held on December 3 at the Suvarnabhumi Campus and December 4 at the Hua Mak Campus. Themed “The Wish Village,” the events brought together students, faculty, and staff in a celebration of light, hope, and community.

These ceremonies not only marked the beginning of the holiday season but also served as a testament to the university’s commitment to fostering unity, gratitude, and giving within its diverse community.

Transforming Campuses into Festive Havens

Under the theme “The Wish Village,” both campuses were transformed into vibrant holiday settings. Towering Christmas trees adorned with dazzling lights and ornaments became the centerpiece of the celebrations, symbolizing joy, hope, and the power of shared dreams.

The events were organized by the Assumption University Student Organization (AUSO), led by Project Director Suchunya Pitsathien, under the guidance of the Center for Student Leadership and Experiential Learning. Their meticulous planning and collaboration with faculty, staff, and technicians ensured the success of the event.

“Assumption is Your Second Home”

During his opening remarks, Rev. Bro. Dr. Sirichai Fonseka, f.s.g., Ph.D., President of Assumption University, delivered a heartfelt message that resonated deeply with the audience. “While we celebrate Christmas at home,” he shared, “Assumption is your second home.”

This sentiment beautifully underscored the university’s mission of creating a nurturing and inclusive environment, where students and staff alike feel a sense of belonging. The lighting of the Christmas tree at 4:15 PM symbolized this spirit, drawing applause and cheers from the attendees.

Highlights of the Celebration

The Hua Mak Campus event began at 3:45 PM with a student representative’s welcoming address. Rev. Bro. Sirichai Fonseka’s inspiring speech set the tone for the evening, emphasizing the values of love, reconciliation, and gratitude.

The ceremony featured traditional holiday songs like “Jingle Bells” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” performed by AU’s talented student groups. Guests also enjoyed an array of interactive activities, including live performances, food booths, games, and the Wall of Wishes, where they could pen their dreams for the year ahead.

Giving Back with “Box of Wishes”

A hallmark of the event was the Box of Wishes initiative, a University Social Responsibility (USR) project led by AUSO. This program encouraged attendees to donate items such as clothing, shoes, stationery, and toys, which will be distributed through the Mirror Foundation to underprivileged communities.

A Testament to Leadership and Community

The success of the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremonies reflects the strength of collaboration and leadership at Assumption University. AUSO’s role in planning and managing the event showcased the university’s emphasis on experiential learning and fostering student leadership.

“This event truly captures the essence of Christmas,” shared Mr. Kaung Myat Aung, a first-year student from the Theophane Venard School of Biotechnology. “It’s a moment to celebrate togetherness, joy, and the bright future ahead.”

As the illuminated Christmas trees cast their warm glow across campus, they stand as powerful reminders of the season’s values: gratitude, love, and hope. The message of Assumption as a “second home” resonates strongly, bringing the AU community together as one family.
