Assumption University of Thailand (AU) warmly welcomed its exchange and international students to a unique and enriching cultural outing to Ayutthaya, Thailand’s ancient capital, on Friday, January 24, 2025. This exciting one-day trip offered students the chance to explore Thailand’s rich cultural and historical tapestry while fostering connections with their peers and the local community.

The trip was thoughtfully designed to immerse participants, including French exchange students and students from the MA and AMSEM programs, in Thailand’s vibrant heritage. From exploring iconic ruins to witnessing traditional art forms, the outing aimed to deepen the students’ appreciation of Thai culture and history.

A Day of Exploration and Learning The journey began early, with students departing from Bangkok at 7:30 AM. Their first stop was the Ayutthaya Historical Park, where they explored ancient ruins and learned about the city’s past as Thailand’s capital during the Ayutthaya Kingdom. The group then visited Wat Na Pra Men, a temple renowned for being one of the last surviving examples of Ayutthayan art.

Midday, participants enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch at the Krungsri Riverside Hotel, with scenic views of the river enhancing the experience. The afternoon was filled with cultural and historical insights at the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum, where students marveled at artifacts and treasures that tell the story of Ayutthaya’s rich heritage.

The group also visited Wat Chai Watanaram, one of Ayutthaya’s most iconic temples, celebrated for its architectural splendor. The day concluded with a visit to the Art of the Kingdom Museum, where students witnessed the centuries-old tradition of Khon masked dance, a unique performance art that has been passed down through generations.

Why Cultural Immersion Matters The outing underscored the importance of cultural immersion in creating meaningful educational experiences. By visiting historical landmarks and engaging with traditional art forms, students gained a greater appreciation for Thailand’s resilience, creativity, and cultural identity.

A Day to Remember The students returned to Bangkok with not only new knowledge but also fond memories of the day’s experiences. Many shared their excitement about the trip, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to learn outside the classroom.

Assumption University of Thailand is committed to providing holistic education that goes beyond academics, offering students experiences that enrich their global perspective. Events like this reflect the University’s dedication to fostering cultural understanding and respect.
