The Theophane Venard School of Biotechnology at Assumption University of Thailand (AU) proudly hosted a seminar on Environmental Conservation, featuring the distinguished Dr. Petch Manopawitr, a Thai conservation scientist with over 20 years of experience in biodiversity research, protected area management, and conservation science training.

The seminar, held at Hua Mak Campus, brought together students, faculty, and environmental enthusiasts. Dr. Petch, who is currently based in Bangkok and Phuket, shared his extensive knowledge and experience in the field of conservation science.


 

 
 

Dr. Petch began his conservation career at the Seub Nakhasathien Foundation, a national conservation NGO, where he served as a wildlife research project coordinator and information officer. After earning a Master's degree in Zoology and Tropical Ecology from James Cook University in Australia in 2001, he joined the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Thailand as the Training and Education Coordinator and later became the Deputy Director overseeing the Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex conservation program.

His accolades include being a Visiting Fellow at Cornell University under the Fulbright's Humphrey Fellowship Program, a professional affiliation with the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology, and a Global Fellow in Marine Conservation at Duke University Marine Lab. He has served as conservation director with WWF Thailand and deputy of IUCN Southeast Asia. In 2019, he completed his Ph.D. in designing resilient Andaman marine protected area networks at the University of Victoria, Canada.


 
 

Dr. Petch is also a National Geographic Explorer and has published over 200 articles on conservation biology and current conservation issues. He received numerous awards, including the Green Globe Award for the best conservation writing, Best Green Change Maker Influencer, and Best Influencer on Social Media on Environment. He was selected as Thailand’s Outstanding Fulbright Alumni in 2021.

During his engaging talk, Dr. Petch covered critical topics in environmental conservation, emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices and the role of individuals and organizations in preserving our planet's biodiversity. His insights into the challenges and solutions in conservation were both enlightening and inspiring, sparking meaningful discussions among attendees.
