AAU x ILLI is a collaboration project between AAU and the International Landscape Lighting Institute (ILLI), a not-for-profit organization based in the USA. The project aims to disseminate and share knowledge, including expert lighting design skills, for designers and those interested in landscape architecture lighting design. It is a part of activities celebrating the 25th anniversary of AAU: Montfort del Rosario School of Architecture and Design, in collaboration with the Association of Siamese Architects (ASA) under Royal Patronage, Thai Association for Landscape Architects (TALA) and suppliers from the lighting industry.

Under the supervision of Assistant Professor Chutarat Laomanacharoen and Ajarn Peeraanong Wongtanakornchai, a project titled ‘A Gold (AU) Night | Light up in the garden’ was initiated. The activities comprised of two parts - an online live seminar from the United States hosted by two prominent lighting designers of ILLI Board of Directors under the topic of “The art of Landscape Illumination” and “Prescriptive vs. Artistic.” One of the newly developed lecture topics, offered for the first time by ILLI founder Janet Lennox Moyer. Secondly, a special forum to exchange ideas with lighting design experts and landscape architects in Thailand, followed by an on-site workshop at the garden area around the Thai pavilion at the Assumption University of Thailand (AU), Hua Mak Campus.
Ajarn Peeraanong said “the workshop is a unique opportunity to experiment with the illumination of different types of lights, lanterns, tubes, and trees of 5-6 meters height. Apart from the being an interesting and beneficial approach to lighting, it also contributes to an exchange of understanding between homeowners, designers, landscape architects, and entrepreneurs which may lead to various developments in this field.”

‘A Gold(AU) Night | Light Up in the Garden’ was held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the AU library area, AU garden and the Thai pavilion (Sala Pratipalai), Assumption University of Thailand, Hua Mak Campus, between 13.00 -19.00 hrs. The lighting workshop in AU garden session was opened by Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, President of Assumption University of Thailand.

One more memorial expression session of this event was the “Homecoming Party” where the alumni of AAU: The School of Architecture and Design, came to meet with professors (both formal and present) and staffs. The participants enjoyed foods, drinks, and music with the theme dressing up as a “Greek Designer” at Dr. Choop Plaza, in front of Martin de Tours Building (M Building), between 18.00 – 22.00 hrs.
