Assumption University of Thailand (AU) Executive Team Holds Strategic Meeting in Rome with Superior General and Secretary General of the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel to Advance Lay Collaboration and Strengthen Educational Mission in Thailand


 

 

Rome, Italy: November 16,2024 – In a significant step toward fostering greater lay collaboration and enhancing the educational mission in Thailand, the President , Rev. Bro. Dr. Sirichai Fonseka and executive team of Assumption University convened a high-level business meeting in Rome with the Superior General , Rev. Bro. Dionigi Taffarello, and Secretary General of the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel (BSG), Bro. Jean- Marie Thior. This meeting, held at the congregation’s headquarters, reflects a shared commitment to advancing educational excellence and service-driven leadership throughout Thailand.


 

 

The discussions focused on expanding lay participation in educational leadership, strengthening academic initiatives, and fostering innovation in BSG-affiliated institutions across Thailand. The collaboration seeks to align the educational mission with evolving global challenges while upholding the values of holistic formation and human development that are at the heart of the Montfortian tradition.

Key agenda items included exploring new models of leadership development, enhancing teacher -student training programs, and reinforcing a commitment to value-based education. Both Assumption University and the leadership of the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel emphasized the importance of nurturing future leaders grounded in faith, integrity, and community service. 

The Superior General and his Secretary General expressed strong support for Assumption University’s initiatives and pledged continued partnership to further the congregation’s vision for transformative education. This meeting marks a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between lay and religious leaders to inspire and empower future generations.


 

 

 

 About:

  1. The Fratelli di San Gabriele (Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel), known as the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel, is a Roman Catholic religious congregation dedicated to education and service, particularly among youth. They trace their roots back to the work of St. Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort, who founded the congregation in the 18th century as part of his mission to teach and serve communities through Christian education and social work.
  2. Casa Generalizia, or the General House, serves as the congregation’s headquarters, where the Brothers oversee global operations, maintain connections with regional institutions, and uphold their commitment to service and evangelization through education. They are present in numerous countries, particularly focused on managing schools, colleges, and centers that aim to empower youth through holistic education rooted in faith, values, and human dignity.
  3. Brothers of St. Gabriel is an international religious Order, having 1,200 members working in 35 countries, founded by Saint Louis Marie de Montfort (1673-1716) at Saint Laurent sur Sevre, Poitier, France
  4. Five pioneer Brothers, with Bro. Martin de Tours as group leader died in 1933, arrived in Siam on 20 October 1901 taking charge of Assumption College, later founded Saint Gabriel’s College, Bangkok  in 1920.
  5. In Thailand mission, Brothers registered themselves as Saint Gabriel’s Foundation Thailand, with 72 members, working in 17 educational institutions, including AU since 1969
  6. Headquarters is located in Rome, having Central Administration or executive board, to be elected every 6 years, at General Chapter (Assembly), the latest 33rd Chapter was held in April 2024 . President of Au, Rev. Bro. Dr. Sirichai was elected in 2000 organized the 29th General Assembly 2000-2006
