Assumption University of Thailand (AU)’s Hua Mak Campus was abuzz with excitement as the Theophane Venard School of Biotechnology hosted a special day for its students and faculty. The event featured the First Orientation, Wai Kru Ceremony, and a Lab Safety Seminar, marking a significant milestone for new Biotechnology students.

First Orientation for Freshmen

The event commenced with the First Orientation exclusively for new Biotechnology freshmen. Students gathered in the grand Salle d’Expo Room, filled with nervous energy and curiosity.

By 13:00 hrs, the room was lively with introductions and warm greetings from faculty members. The orientation session provided essential information about the University and Faculty, helping students navigate their academic journey. Lecturers introduced themselves and shared inspiring stories about their careers. An interactive segment allowed students to ask questions about their study plans and receive advice on effective study habits, fostering a sense of community.

Wai Kru Ceremony

Students reconvened for the Wai Kru Ceremony, a traditional Thai ritual that allows students to pay respect to their teachers. Students knelt before their teachers, offering flowers, deepening the bond between them. It was a humbling and inspiring moment, emphasizing the importance of gratitude and respect in the educational journey.

Lab Safety Seminar

The day concluded with a Lab Safety Seminar, focusing on the importance of safety in scientific exploration. Held immediately after the Wai Kru Ceremony, this session was crucial for all Biotechnology students. It provided detailed guidelines on lab protocols and safety measures, including demonstrations and practical tips on handling lab equipment and managing hazards. Students left with a clear understanding of the safety standards needed to conduct experiments confidently and responsibly.

A Day to Remember

The events of June 25, 2024, marked a significant day for the new Biotechnology students at AU. The carefully curated combination of orientation, cultural ceremony, and practical training ensured that students were not only informed but also inspired and prepared for the academic challenges ahead.

Rev. Bro. Bancha Saenghiran, President of AU, remarked on the occasion: “Today’s events highlight the values of respect, knowledge, and safety that we hold dear at Assumption University of Thailand. I am confident that our new Biotechnology students will carry these values forward as they embark on their academic journey and future careers.”

As the day drew to a close, the students left with a sense of pride and excitement. They were no longer strangers to the university or to each other. They were now a part of the vibrant and dynamic community of the Theophane Venard School of Biotechnology, ready to contribute to the world of science with respect, knowledge, and a commitment to safety.

River, a Biotechnology freshman, from Myanmar, shared his excitement: “Today was amazing! The orientation and ceremonies were all about respect, safety, and getting ready for an awesome journey.”
