In a special lecture at Assumption University of Thailand (AU) ’s Hua Mak Campus, Dr. Jerzy Zawistowski, Academic Director of the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) Master of Food Science program, captivated students with insights from his extensive career in functional foods and nutraceuticals. Known for pioneering research aimed at reducing the risk of coronary heart disease, Dr. Zawistowski introduced AU students to the unique UBC curriculum, offering a comprehensive look at topics like food law and health-boosting functional foods.
The one-hour lecture, organized by the Theophane Venard School of Biotechnology, underscored the critical role of food science in global health. Dr. Zawistowski also drew on his industry background as the former Vice President of Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals at Forbes Medi-Tech Inc., sharing firsthand stories that demonstrated the real-world impact of science-based dietary innovations.
Dr. Zawistowski’s talk inspired AU students, illustrating how the fusion of scientific research and industry insight can lead to breakthroughs in public health. For these budding scientists, it was a rare chance to learn from a leader in the field and get a glimpse into the future of food science and health.
