As part of Financial Management class of the MBA Day program, students have been introduced to financial analysis tools to assess historical performance and corporate financial health. To reinforce in-depth analysis skills, students analyzed financial data from local and international cosmetics and real-estate companies. These exercises broaden their perspective, enabling them to form their own view, draw conclusions and generate alternatives for effective decision making.
To integrate practical aspects into the analysis process, students visited SET Fin Lab, the world-class finance laboratory at SET’s Maruay library to explore Bloomberg for Education, a financial tools used by professionals in the global capital markets.
At SETFinLab, students used Bloomberg’s Financial Analysis function to examine historical financial data of target companies and their industry peers. With Bloomberg’ financial analysis template, students can save time analyzing financial ratios analysis and understanding revenues’ drivers. They also explored tools like the transcript analyzer, which identifies key words and themes from earnings call transcripts, and Bloomberg Intelligence Primer to understand industry dynamics and broaden their view of the sector in which companies operate.
With experiential learning at SET Fin Lab, students could focus on integrating financial and qualitative information to understand reasons behind the numbers. With such insights, they can draw implications on possible future performance and likelihood of success for the company’s strategic actions. This thought-process is an essential skill for navigating today’s dynamic business environment.
