The Theophane Venard School of Biotechnology at Assumption University of Thailand (AU), in collaboration with the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), successfully hosted an engaging seminar on the "EU Circular Economy Action Plan: Packaging and Plastics" led by Dr. Witchuda Daud, Director of the Advanced Polymer Technology Research Group at MTEC. The seminar took place at P 44 Room, St. Phillips & Bernard Hall, Hua Mak Campus from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and attracted students, faculty.
The National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), which was established by Cabinet resolution on September 16, 1986, serves as a specialized agency supporting research and development in metal and materials technology. It later became part of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Energy on December 29, 1991. MTEC has since played a vital role in advancing research efforts, particularly in sectors critical to sustainable development, such as packaging and plastics.
Dr. Witchuda delivered a comprehensive presentation on the EU's strategic approach to achieving a sustainable and circular economy, particularly focusing on the challenges and opportunities in the packaging and plastics sectors. Attendees were introduced to innovative solutions aimed at reducing plastic waste and developing eco-friendly packaging materials, in line with the global push towards sustainable development goals.
The event was part of the FT 4126 Food Packaging and FT 4145 Packaging Design and Innovation courses, allowing students to deepen their understanding of real-world applications in their field. Throughout the seminar, Dr. Witchuda emphasized the importance of research and industry collaboration in addressing environmental challenges, particularly in Thailand and Southeast Asia.

The seminar provided a platform for attendees to engage in thought-provoking discussions and explore cutting-edge research in polymer technology, highlighting the importance of academic and industrial partnerships in driving forward the circular economy agenda.
The Theophane Venard School of Biotechnology expressed their gratitude to Dr. Witchuda Daud for her invaluable insights and to all participants who contributed to the success of the seminar. The event marks a significant step towards AU’s continued efforts to foster sustainable development and innovation through education and research.
