Bangkok, August 14, 2024 – The Student Council of Thomas Aquinas School of Law at Assumption University of Thailand (AU) , in collaboration with the Asian Law Students Association of Assumption University of Thailand (ALSA AU), organized the “Rapee Day Ceremony and Academic Visit 2024” to honor the legacy of Prince Rapee Pattanasak, recognized as the Father of Thai Law. The event, held on Rapee Day, commemorated Prince Rapee's significant contributions to the reform of Thailand's legal and judicial systems during the reign of King Rama V.
The ceremony began with nearly 100 participants, including the school’s administrators, lecturers, and students, who gathered to pay homage by laying a flower wreath at Prince Rapee’s statue at the Thai Bar Association. A poem was recited to praise Prince Rapee’s contributions to the legal field, reflecting the deep respect and admiration held for his work.
Following the ceremonial activities, attendees proceeded to the Ministry of Justice, where they engaged in an academic session focused on “The Reformation of Thailand's Law and Court System.” This session provided valuable insights into the evolution of Thailand’s legal framework and the ongoing efforts to uphold justice within the country. Throughout the session, senior administrators provided a warm reception and insight knowledge, and all participants were bestowed honor by Mr. Somruam Boonserm, Assistant Permanent Secretary, the Ministry of Justice.
The event concluded with a visit to the Thailand Arbitration Center (THAC), where participants attended a special lecture on “Fundamentals of Alternative Dispute Resolutions and the Arbitration System” by Miss Dutsadee Dutsadeepanich, THAC Arbitrator and Partner of ABER Law Group Company Limited. This session highlighted the importance of arbitration and other alternative dispute-resolution mechanisms in the modern legal landscape. Additionally, the two institutes participated in a Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony between THAC and AU, Law School, which signified their close academic collaborations in the areas of law education quality enhancement and the promotion of constructive dispute resolution for social justice. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was executed by Miss Machimdhorn Khampiranont, the Director of the Thailand Arbitration Center, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Nattapong Suwanin, the Dean of the School of Law. The signing was observed by Mr. Nicky Balni, the Director of Arbitration and Mediation Affairs (International) at THAC, and Mr. Aek Wonganant, the Director of the Office of the Vice President for Legal and Privilege Affairs at AU.
The 2024 Rapee Day Ceremony and Academic Visit successfully commemorated the memory of Prince Rapee Pattanasak and provided the participants with valuable educational experiences, thereby reinforcing their dedication to the advancement of legal education and practice in Thailand at the Thomas Aquinas School of Law, AU.
