Assumption University of Thailand (AU) joins the Kingdom in humbly wishing a Happy Birthday to Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn. Born on July 4, 1957, Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana is the youngest daughter of Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and Queen Sirikit of Thailand. She has two daughters, HRH Princess Siribhachudhabhorn and HRH Princess Adityadhornkitikhun.

Princess Chulabhorn graduated with First Class Honors from the Faculty of Science and Arts at Kasetsart University in 1979, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organic Chemistry. She followed this with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Organic Chemistry from Mahidol University in 1985, highlighting her excellent academic achievements.

In 1986, she was appointed an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in London and was awarded the Einstein Gold Medal by UNESCO. The following year, she undertook post-doctoral studies in Germany and has since been a visiting professor at universities in Japan, Germany, and the United States. She also holds Honorary Doctorates from many universities worldwide.

Her Royal Highness is the chairperson of the Working Group on the Chemistry of Natural Products, a collaborative program between the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science and the National Research Council of Thailand. She has received international recognition for her scientific accomplishments, resulting in appointments to various United Nations posts, including special advisor to the United Nations Environment Program and member of the Special High-Level Council for the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction.

In 1987, HRH Princess Chulabhorn established the Chulabhorn Research Institute to support Thai researchers facing funding challenges. The institute serves as a focal point for intellectual and resource exchange in Thailand, addressing urgent problems in health, environment, and agriculture.

As president of the Chulabhorn Research Institute, she directs numerous special research projects, including the AIDS program, restoration and development of flood-affected areas in Southern Thailand, seawater irrigation for marine species cultivation, preservation of mangrove forests, a rabies eradication program, the Light for Life Foundation for Epilepsy, Chulalongkorn Comprehensive Epilepsy Program, Tabtim Siam Secondary School in Surin province, and the ‘Voice of Dharma for the Public’ Radio Station in Udon Thani province. Through these initiatives, HRH Princess Chulabhorn plays a vital role in improving the environment and living standards in many Thai provinces.

AU is deeply grateful for HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s lifetime of dedication and scientific contributions. We join the entire Kingdom in wishing Her Royal Highness a most Happy Birthday on July 4, 2024.
