WRITER: DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL EDUCATION

Since 2019, the Department of General Education has offered AU students the GE3401: Public Speaking in Thai course. Over the past six years, Dr. Nanta Thongtaweewattana, a committed lecturer, has consistently refined the course content for the most practical use, striving to enhance students’ communication and presentation skills. Her dedication to improvement has made our course a trusted resource for their future careers.

She points out the importance of effective communication, which will have numerous impacts on personal and professional life.

She continued, "This course aims to enable students to speak and communicate correctly and appropriately on various occasions, which will be a reasonable basis for effective communication, enhance students' communication skills, and foster personal growth. It provides a platform for students to use spoken language formally for communication on various occasions. Besides, this journey of personal development, coupled with their excellent speaking qualities and personalities, inspires and motivates our students to live more enriching lives.”

The skills they developed in the GE3401: Public Speaking in Thai course and the confidence they gained from participating in the Thai Speech Contest contribute significantly to their personal and professional growth. It's a testament to their dedication and growth, and we hope it will inspire you, too, igniting a sense of personal growth and development.

Furthermore, the GE department collaborates with the Office of Thai Art and Culture every academic year to arrange a Thai Speech Contest. This contest, a tradition for more than ten years, is not just a competition but a platform to discover potential AU students. It aligns perfectly with the objectives of the GE3401: Public Speaking in Thai course, offering students a chance to apply what they have learned in a real-world context. Open to all students, the contest provides a unique opportunity to use their potential to the fullest and to explore and integrate these rich cultural elements into their public speaking. It's a chance that should be noticed and embraced, and the unique opportunity provided by this contest should excite and motivate our students.

Approximately Twenty students from different faculties and academic years participated in the Thai Speech Contest. Several participants, primarily enrolled in GE3401: Public Speaking in Thai received the first prize and other honorary awards.

Winning awards in the Thai Speech Contest brings recognition and confidence. For instance, Ms. Tipsitong Khiaolaoo from the School of Communication Arts won the first prize. Ms. Waranya Arras from the School of Business (BBA) won the first-runner-up award, and Ms. Aiko Owaki received an appreciation award for the academic year 1/2023.

These success stories are a testament to the effectiveness of our course and the potential it holds for all our students. We have another success story, such as Ms. Chanikanda Srijantra from Theodore Maria School of Arts, who won the second-runner-up award in the academic year 2/2023.

We hope these stories fill you with pride and hope for your journey in the Public Speaking in Thai course.

We look forward to seeing you there, ready to showcase your skills and win prestigious awards. This should instill a sense of encouragement and hope for your future participation!!
