In a bid to elevate research standards and foster academic collaboration, Assumption University of Thailand (AU) hosted a workshop on Systematic Reviews: PRISMA, attracting scholars from across disciplines. Held virtually on September 25, 2024, the session was led by Dr. Timothy Scott, an expert in research methodologies, who guided participants through the intricacies of the PRISMA framework, a globally recognized tool for improving the clarity and transparency of systematic reviews.

The workshop provided a rare opportunity for faculty members, postgraduate students, and early-career researchers to sharpen their methodological skills. PRISMA, an acronym for Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, has become the benchmark for conducting systematic reviews—ensuring that studies are well-reported, replicable, and above all, credible.

“Game-Changing” Techniques for Researchers
Throughout the hour-long workshop, Dr. Timothy took participants through a step-by-step explanation of the PRISMA guidelines, demonstrating how even seasoned researchers can enhance the robustness of their systematic reviews.

“What we aim for with PRISMA is not just transparency, but a commitment to the highest standards of academic integrity,” Dr. Scott explained. “When research is well-structured and clearly presented, it has the power to influence policy, practice, and future research.”

Participants were highly engaged, with a lively Q&A session that allowed attendees to address challenges in their own research. A researcher from the Montfort del Rosario School of Architecture and Design called the session “game-changing,” adding that the PRISMA approach would be central to their upcoming publications.

Research Across Disciplines
The workshop saw representation from many of AU’s faculties, underscoring the growing importance of systematic reviews not just in health and social sciences, but across fields such as engineering, biotechnology, and business administration.

“In an age where interdisciplinary research is critical, tools like PRISMA offer a common language,” noted one participant from the Theophane Venard School of Biotechnology. “Workshops like these show us how we can collaborate more effectively and make our research accessible to a broader audience.”

Setting a New Standard for Research Excellence
The PRISMA workshop marks a step forward in AU ’s commitment to research excellence. By providing resources and expert guidance, the Graduate School of Human Sciences hopes to empower researchers to not only publish more but to do so with greater impact.
