On a warm Wednesday afternoon, a delegation from Chiang Mai University arrived at Assumption University of Thailand (AU) ‘s Suvarnabhumi Campus, eager to explore how one of Thailand’s leading private universities manages its student housing. The visit, which took place on August 28, 2024, offered a glimpse into the operations behind the modern, well-equipped residence halls that have become a hallmark of AU.
The delegation was greeted in the Wiset Srisamut Room, located within the university’s striking The Cathedral of Learning Building. The event began with a presentation by Mr. Sompol Na Songkhla V.P. for Legal and Privilege Affairs, who oversees legal and benefit rights at AU. His talk focused on the university’s commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for its students, emphasizing the role of residence life in fostering a sense of community and well-being.
After the presentation, the Chiang Mai University representatives were taken on a tour of the residence halls. The facilities, designed to meet the needs of a diverse student body, were described as both comfortable and conducive to academic success. The visitors observed firsthand how the residence halls are managed and maintained, with particular attention to the integration of modern amenities and services that support students’ overall experience.
The visit was more than just a tour; it was an opportunity for two of Thailand’s top universities to exchange ideas on best practices in student housing. As the delegation prepared to depart, there was a shared sense of enthusiasm for future collaborations that could benefit students at both institutions.
The day’s events underscored AU ‘s role as a leader in student services, while also highlighting the importance of partnerships in higher education. As one member of the Chiang Mai University team put it, “We’ve learned a lot today, and we’re looking forward to bringing some of these ideas back to our campus.”

For AU, the visit was a reminder of the value of openness and exchange in the pursuit of academic and operational excellence. And for the delegation from Chiang Mai, it was a day well spent, gaining insights that could help enhance the student experience back home.
