China Scholarship Council
Speech by AU President
Good morning! It is an immense honor to welcome the delegation from the China Scholarship Council and the top academics from China. Specially mention that Prof. Wang Huan, Spouse of the Ambassador of China to Thailand, Ms. Xu Lan, Education Counsellor of the Embassy of Chinaand Mr. Zhang Jun, Deputy Secretary of China Scholarship Council, thanks for your presence.
Before I begin, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Confucius Institute for organizing this meaningful visit. As we gather today, I am reminded of an old saying by the Chinese wise man Lao zi,which was “The journey with a thousand miles begins with one step.” Today marks an important step in our journey towards deeper collaboration and mutual growth. China, with its rich history of scholarly excellence and innovation, continues to inspire the world. We are privileged to explore opportunities for partnership with such a distinguished academic community.
Assumption University of Thailand is proud to be recognized as the top-ranked private university in Thailand for the third consecutive year by UniRank. This achievement underscores our unwavering commitment to academic excellence and adherence to international standards.
Assumption University of Thailand boasts a highly international environment, with our credits being recognized globally. This allows our students to seamlessly pursue studies abroad, ensuring they are well-prepared to succeed in a globalized world.
We are privileged to host a vibrant community of international students from 97 countries. Close to 2,000 students of Chinese nationality currently study at AU, making up nearly 25% of our student body. Their presence enriches our campus and fosters a culture of inclusivity and global understanding. As Confucius wisely said, "Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope. Hope breeds peace."
AU has a strong track record of collaboration with Chinese institutions. We are proud to host the Confucius Institute in partnership with Tianjin University of Science and Technology, promoting cultural exchange and academic cooperation. Additionally, we have ongoing partnerships in the biological sciences and other fields with several prestigious Chinese universities.
In May this year, I had the pleasure of visiting China. This visit was enlightening and reinforced the potential for future collaboration between AU and Chinese universities. The positive outcomes from this visit have paved the way for new opportunities and strengthened our existing relationships.
Looking ahead, there is an exciting opportunity for AU to become the sole testing center in Thailand for students aspiring to study in China. As you may know, future students will be required to take a unified examination to study in China. This presents a significant opportunity for both AU and prospective students.
Allow me to share some impressive figures that highlight the academic excellence at AU:
• Graduates: AU has conferred degrees to 50 classes with a total of 112,152 alumni.
• Student Body (2022):9,188 students, including 7,620 Bachelor’s, 973 Master’s, and 595 Doctoral students.
• Programs and Schools: We offer 60 academic programs across 12 schools.

Faculty qualifications include 3 Bachelor’s degree holders, 288 Master’s degree holders, and 318 Doctoral degree holders. Their dedication and expertise have resulted in 255 academic publications, significantly contributing to global knowledge.
In closing, I want to reiterate AU’s dedication to fostering international collaborations and academic excellence. We hope that today’s discussions will lead to fruitful partnerships and mutual growth. Thank you for considering AU as a key partner in your endeavors. We warmly invite you to explore our campus and facilities.
