Assumption University of Thailand (AU) has reinforced its dedication to national and global service by donating to support the 36th annual Princess Prem (Ngarmchit) Purachatra Memorial Day, held on October 18, 2024. The event, which took place at the Public Relations Department Auditorium in Phayathai, honoured the life and work of Princess Prem, a figure renowned for her profound impact on both Thai society and the international stage.
During the event, Mr. Sompol Na Songkhla, Vice President for Legal and Privilege Affairs at Assumption University, received the award plaque in recognition of the university's ongoing support for the Princess Prem Purachatra Memorial Foundation.
Princess Prem (Ngarmchit) Purachatra, the princess consort to H.H. Prince Prem Purachatra, was a visionary leader in social welfare and public service. She holds the distinction of being the first Thai woman, and only the second Asian woman, to serve as President of the International Council of Women. She was also a board member of UNESCO’s International Fund, where her efforts helped foster mutual understanding among nations, strengthen relationships between communities, and contribute to global peace.
Her tireless dedication to social development spanned more than 60 years, with numerous international charitable initiatives that have had a lasting impact. Her work has not only supported the efforts of the Royal Thai Government but has also remained vital to Thailand’s evolving social landscape. Princess Prem’s achievements continue to inspire generations of Thai women and others to pursue self-improvement, hard work, and moral responsibility.

The Princess Prem (Ngarmchit) Purachatra Memorial Foundation, under Royal Patronage, expressed its gratitude to AU for their contribution. Khunying Saengtian Na Nakorn, the foundation’s president, praised the university’s ongoing support and its alignment with Princess Prem’s enduring values.
Speaking about the event, Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, Rector Magnificus of AU, highlighted the university’s commitment to honouring figures whose work has shaped both Thai and global society. “Princess Prem Purachatra’s lifelong dedication to public service and education continues to inspire, and we are proud to play a role in commemorating her extraordinary legacy,” he said.
For over three decades, the memorial day has served as a platform to celebrate the life of Princess Prem while also encouraging continued dialogue about her contributions to society. Representatives from various sectors, including education, government, and philanthropy, gathered to reflect on her legacy and discuss the foundation’s future initiatives.
