On January 25–26, 2025, Assistant Professor Dr. Kanyaphat Setchoduk, a faculty member of the Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science, Assumption University of Thailand (AU) along with nursing students Ms. Runchachita Tirarujkunkanya and Ms. Pimwipa Bunmangam, actively participated in the Integrated Workshop: Intensive Training for Student Nurse Leaders to Enhance Health Literacy on E-Cigarettes.
Themed "Nursing Students and the Mission to Stop E-Cigarette Hazards: The Power of the New Generation to Create Thai Well-being – Stop E-Cigarettes for Well-being," the workshop was organized by the Nurse Network on Tobacco Control of Thailand and held at Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Bangkok, and the Nurses Association of Thailand.
Bringing together 49 nursing schools from across Thailand, the workshop hosted more than 50 nursing instructors and 130 student nurses, all committed to advancing public health awareness. As a distinguished expert, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kanyaphat Setchoduk was invited to join a panel discussion titled “The Role of Faculty Advisors in Developing the Potential of Student Nurse Leaders in Campaigning to Reduce E-Cigarette Hazards in the Modern Era.” This session provided nationwide nursing educators with strategies to empower students in tobacco control advocacy.
Student nurses also engaged in the "Upskills – Reskills for the Future" training, which focused on equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to promote smoking cessation and reduce e-cigarette use. They received guidance from tobacco control experts on how to create innovative media content for social media influencers to spread awareness on e-cigarette hazards. A highlight of the event was the students’ production of a short video clip promoting tobacco cessation, which was shared on TikTok.
This invaluable experience strengthened the nursing student network across Thailand while enhancing both faculty and student capabilities in electronic cigarette control and health literacy. Their participation underscores the growing role of nurses as advocates for public health and champions in the fight against tobacco-related harm.
